Life cycle assessment (LCA) is a scientific method that measures a product's environmental impacts across every stage, from raw material extraction to production, transport, use and end of life, in line with ISO 14040 and ISO 14044. Goal and scope: We define the functional unit and system boundaries, either cradle-to-gate or cradle-to-grave.
Life cycle inventory (LCI): We collect raw material, energy, production, packaging and transport data.
Impact assessment (LCIA): We calculate environmental impacts in line with ISO 14040/14044.
Interpretation: We identify the stages with the highest impact and the opportunities for improvement.

How long does an LCA take? Typically 2–4 weeks for simple products and 6–8 weeks for complex systems.

What is the difference between an LCA and an EPD? An LCA is the analysis that calculates environmental impacts. An EPD is the independently verified version of that analysis, published in a standard format.

Is an LCA the same as a carbon footprint? No. A product carbon footprint is one of the results of an LCA, which also measures water, resource and pollution impacts.

Is our data kept confidential? Yes, all data is protected under confidentiality agreements.
