Keyou – Hydrogen Technologies

These engines, which are made hydrogen-compatible while preserving the foundation of existing diesel engine technology, provide both environmental and economic advantages. It is possible to convert existing vehicles through retrofit solutions.

KEYOU offers the fastest and most economical path to carbon-neutral mobility in the heavy-duty vehicle sector. With the "KEYOU-inside" technology—which converts existing engine platforms into Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engines (H2-ICE)—we combine high efficiency, durability, and zero-emission goals into a single solution. We are transforming the logistics industry by providing a more robust and cost-effective alternative to fuel cell systems.

1. KEYOU-inside Combustion Technology

At the core of KEYOU’s success are patented systems designed to manage hydrogen's unique combustion characteristics, such as its high flame speed and wide flammability limits.

  • H2-Specific Combustion Process: Ensures stable combustion even in lean burn (very lean mixture) conditions. This increases engine efficiency while reducing the thermal load.

  • Advanced Ignition System: High-precision ignition control that eliminates the risk of pre-ignition caused by hydrogen’s low ignition energy.

  • Emission Control: CO2 emissions are naturally zero. Nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions are reduced to "Near-Zero" levels through KEYOU’s proprietary combustion strategy and a standard SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system.

2. Technical Components and Integration

KEYOU-inside optimizes the following components to make a standard diesel engine block hydrogen-compatible:

  • Hydrogen Injection System: High-speed injectors that deliver hydrogen to the intake manifold or directly into the combustion chamber.

  • Special Turbocharger Management: Turbocharger systems specially calibrated for hydrogen engines to provide high airflow, enabling the engine to produce high torque even at low RPMs.

  • Engine Control Unit (ECU): A proprietary software infrastructure developed by KEYOU that manages all parameters at millisecond speeds.

3. Performance Data (Example: 7.8L Engine Platform)

A standard heavy-duty engine equipped with KEYOU technology offers the following values:

  • Power Output: Approx. 210 kW (285 HP).

  • Maximum Torque: 1000 Nm @ 1200-1600 rpm (Equivalent power feel to a diesel engine).

  • Efficiency: 44% and above thermal efficiency (significantly higher than traditional internal combustion engines).

  • Range: Depending on tank capacity, a range of 500-700 km for a 40-ton truck on a single fill.

4. Why H2-ICE instead of Fuel Cells (FCEV)?

The technical advantages of hydrogen internal combustion engines in heavy-duty operations include:

  • Durability: Hydrogen engines are far more resistant to dusty, vibrating, and harsh working conditions (e.g., construction, mining) than fuel cells.

  • Cost: Since existing engine production lines can be utilized, vehicle costs are 30-50% lower than fuel cell vehicles.

  • Fuel Quality: While fuel cells require ultra-high purity (99.999%) hydrogen, KEYOU engines can operate smoothly with lower purity (and cheaper) hydrogen.

5. Operational Features

  • Refueling: Full refueling in approximately 10-15 minutes at standard hydrogen stations.

  • Maintenance Interval: Similar maintenance periods to existing diesel vehicles, ensuring operational habits remain unchanged for fleets.

  • Service Life: An engine life of 1 million kilometers and above, which is critical for long-haul transportation.
